What does <\/span>Vltava <\/span><\/i>sound like on a four-hand piano? And what about the overture to <\/span>The Bartered Bride <\/span><\/i>when it\u2019s played on two pianos by four pianists using eight hands? You\u2019ll find out at the festival concert marking the 200<\/span>th<\/span> anniversary of Bed\u0159ich Smetana\u2019s birth, to which leading Czech pianist Ivo Kah\u00e1nek invited three of his best pupils. The outright winner of the Prague Spring International Music Competition 2004 has performed at the famous BBC Proms in London and with the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon Rattle. After Rudolf Firku\u0161n<\/span>\u00fd<\/span>,<\/span> Kah\u00e1nek became only the second Czech pianist to appear with this distinguished orchestra. In the first half of the concert he will perform the dramatic sketch <\/span>Macbeth and the Witches<\/span><\/i>, in which Smetana was inspired by a scene from the classic Shakespeare play, and the poetic and virtuosic cycle <\/span>Dreams<\/span><\/i>. In the second half Ivo Kah\u00e1nek will be joined by his pupils Anna Ga\u00e1lov\u00e1 and Pavol Pra\u017eenica, prize-winners at the Smetana International Piano Competition in\u202fPlze<\/span>\u0148<\/span>, and Matou\u0161 Zukal, 2<\/span>nd<\/span> prize-winner of the Prague Spring International Music Competition; together they will perform stunning arrangements of Smetana\u2019s f\u00eated orchestral works.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n
