Angela Hewitt stands in for pianist Maria João Pires
The Rudolf Firkušný Piano Festival regrets to announce that, for health reasons, pianist Maria João Pires has had to cancel her appearance at this year’s festival. Her place will be taken by distinguished Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt. “We greatly appreciate the fact that Angela Hewitt accepted our offer straight away in what were difficult circumstances,” stated festival director Roman Bělor.
She will be performing pieces by François Couperin, W. A. Mozart and J. S. Bach. “Angela Hewitt is a contemporary artist who has shaped her career on the interpretation of Baroque music on the modern piano. Unlike many others, she not only plays Bach superbly, but also the truly “harpsichord” works of François Couperin,” adds the festival’s Programme Director Josef Třeštík.
The concert will take place on the same date, namely on 6 November at 7.30pm in the Dvořák Hall of Prague’s Rudolfinum. Tickets remain valid.
